Repair air conditioning

The different types of air conditioners include the window air conditioner, the central air conditioner, the portable air conditioner and the split systems. Most air conditioners have the same major components, the compressor, condenser, evaporator, condenser and refrigerant the fluid that connects all these systems. For an air conditioner to work in a hot environment the hot air blows over the evaporator the refrigerant absorbs the heat from the air and is converted from liquid to gas. Because the air needs to be constantly kept cool the compressor compresses the gas to release heat from the condenser and to cool the gas refrigerant back to liquid. The expelled heat is released from the condenser and the process continues. This basic explanation shows how all the parts of the air conditioner are related.

When an AC can no longer function in cooling or warming the environment around it then it needs to be repaired. The first thing you should do is check to see if your warranty is still available and then call a technician. If your warranty has not yet expired you can call the company that issued the AC and come to an understanding of how it will be fixed. If the warranty has expired there are many skilled people who may be able to fix your AC .There are two types of groups that can fix your AC; the first can be a company that deals with repair and this are often quite expensive and the second type are freelancers and they may either charge you less than the repair company or more. Therefore it is critical to choose the type of repair person to fix your AC.

Unlike many other automotive fluids, refrigerant evaporates on contact with air making diagnosing a leak based on a naked eye perception is impossible. Leak Evaluation includes:

  • Servicing done by a professional certified technician
  • Checking the cooling performance
  • System pressure check using PSI
  • Visual inspection of air conditioner components
  • Introduction of an ultraviolet dye and 5 ounces refrigerant injection into your AC system to perform a black light inspection and ensure that your AC is leak free

Refrigerant injection provides the pressure required to course through the air conditioning system and expose leak points

The technician will also get rid of any air in the system that could be affecting pressure readings and interfere with the performance of the system. The technician can also change the old refrigerant to the newer R-134a refrigerant which is environmentally friendly.

For the parts that cannot be fixed the technician will recommend their replacement and if the technician you are using comes from a repair service company he or she may recommend products that they offer such as the pipes, seals, compressors, condensers, evaporators, driers or accumulators, switches, fuses and all the other parts that would need to be replaced. Some service repair companies offer to import the parts that are not available in the country but this is usually an offer made by international companies.
